Animal
Rescue:
When an animal is
injured, abused, mistreated, or abandoned, the Humane Society of Shelby
county takes control of the situation. The animal is evaluated and
an attempt is made to save and place him/her.
|
| Education:
In addition to offering
guidance about spay and neuter procedures, the Humane Society of Shelby
County sponsors educational programs that cover the full range of pet
ownership issues. Our education department visits school classrooms
on a regular basis.

Spay
and Neuter:
Stray
animal are not the only cause of animal overpopulation. Many pet
owners refuse to have their animals spayed or neutered. We work in
conjunction with most of our local Vets to educate the community about
spaying and neutering, and to provide assistance with the financial and
emotional needs owners may have. We offer low cost "Prevent A
Litter "PAL" certificates which are honored by many vets.
Just give us a call at the shelter and we will be glad to answer any
questions you may have. You can pick up your "PAL"
certificate at our shelter and at our off-site adoption center SuperPetz
in either Wildwood Shopping Center
or in Irondale
on Crestwood Blvd.

Cremation
Service:
When
our faithful friends become a precious memory, the first thing we must
contend with is how to dispose of the remains. If you feel that
burial would not be an appropriate choice, or if not feasible, cremation
has become an increasingly popular choice. Using modern technology
which is friendly to the environment as well as dignified for your pet,
cremation offers a practical and fitting solution to both disposal and
maintaining the memory of your pet.

| Placement
Service:
When
animals need homes or when a home needs an animal, the Humane Society of
Shelby County can help. The Society works hard to match the right
pet with owners. Besides our shelter located in Columbiana, we have
two off-site adoption centers; SuperPetz in the Wildwood Shopping Center
and
SuperPetz in Irondale
on Crestwood Blvd. Mobile adoptions are held at various
locations each month.

| Volunteers:
Volunteerism is a
driving force in our country. If it weren't for the volunteers in
our organization, so many things would not be done. Our Board of
Directors is an all volunteer board. The people who work at our
off-site adoption centers are all volunteers. So many of our special
events are coordinated and run by our volunteers. What a wonderful
way to make yourself feel better and help the animals at the same
time. There are opportunities that await you. Call our office
at 205-669-3916 for more information.
